Lauren Wiggins/ Individual Statement

Input to the creation of the Music Video

Research and Planning: We decided to use “Rambling man” by Laura Marling and based our research and planning around the music we had chosen. We firstly looked at the type of audience to base our music video around we done this by looking at certain social statuses and looking at the type of audience Laura Marling would perform to. We also used the online media e.g. Facebook to see the types of ages that follow Laura Marling. By looking at our audience research I was able to create a mood board in which would show what type of genre our music video would be created around and also the type of clothes that the actors could wear in the video. I also looked at different types of genres and how their music videos created a linear narrative in which the audience can see a clear storyline. I also created a video that showed the lyrics of our song with the visuals. By doing this we was able to see certain lines of the lyrics that we wouldn’t have normally seen.  We also decided research other artists the same as Laura Marling and see how their music videos had interpret the type of genre we was looking at.
Final cut pro was software which none of the group had used before, so we had decided to research editing techniques in which we could use for our music video to create a better effect.
When looking at planning our music video we had to look at different areas to film, have a filming and editing schedule and overall have the organisation to create our music video. We also created a shot list in which we used when filming our music video this was so that we knew what type of shots to use for a specific time in our song. By creating a filming schedule we was able to see what type of time we had to create our music video this helped create a clear time space in which we worked towards. We looked at how long it would take to get to the location and how far it was from the school to walk/ drive/ get a train or bus.

Construction:
After filming our music video we then had to use final cut pro to make the video come together. After importing the footage we filmed into the computer we started creating parts of our music video. We had to decided if our shots we had taken were to long and needed to be cut and also if the rest of the shot could be shown somewhere else in the music video. When putting together the music video having an order of what we wanted to have in the video was key. Once we had put the video together it was time to edit what we had to use. By putting in different transitions and editing the speed of the actors movement enhanced the effect of the music video. I had no knowledge of final cut pro so when I looked at how to edit a music video we bounced ideas off each other and what we thought would look good in our music video. I also learnt editing techniques which my group did not know so we was able together create and bring our own style to the music video.

Evaluation:
After creating our music video we had an audience come in to look at the video and make comment to what we done well and what we need to improve. By doing this we was able to create a better idea when writing our evaluations. We also felt that by having other people comment on our work it would be beneficial as we spent so much time on our video that we needed others to point out points that we could include into our evaluation. When looking at all of our evaluation questions the use of the radio interview worked well as we was able to create an interactive way this also highlighted the skills we had learnt.
