Ollie Maidment / Individual Statement

We created our music video as a group,  but divided the planning and research between all the members in our group. Below is a list of the work i completed independently to contribute to the overall task.

History Of Music Videos - I researched the concepts of music videos, and noted how they evolved and developed over time.

Research Of Music Websites- I looked at various artist websites and made a powerpoint picking out key elements that i felt where important to the website, that we could use on ours.

Website Mock-Up- I created a mock up of a website filled with ideas that i had collected from my research.

Laura Whitehart's Website- I created the website for our artist. I also took & edited all the pictures on the website.

Special Effects Research- I found relevant videos on youtube of how to do special effects on final cut pro and edited them into one long video to make it easier for us to learn how to incorporate them into our final product.

Digipak Analysis- I looked at various Digipaks and gathered various information that i felt was relevant to our group and put in into a powerpoint.

Understanding Of Editing Techniques- I found videos of how to edit in final cut pro and turned it into one long video so it was easier for us to incorporate it in our final product.

Before & After Pictures- I showed how i had edited the pictures i had taken the pictures for the website.

Audience Research Of Similar Audiences- I looked at similar musicians and looked at there audience demographic to have a better understanding of who will listen to our artist.

Filming- As a group  all contributed equalling in the physical aspect of holding the cameras and filming and contributing with ideas for our music video.

Evaluation Questions- We all had equal input in all of our evaluation questions.

Editing- We all contributed in the editing process, and input of ideas.

Input to the creation of the Music Video

Research and Planning: We decided to use “Rambling man” by Laura Marling and based our research and planning around the music we had chosen. We firstly looked at the type of audience to base our music video around we done this by looking at certain social statuses and looking at the type of audience Laura Marling would perform to. We also used the online media e.g. Facebook to see the types of ages that follow Laura Marling. By looking at our audience research I was able to create a mood board in which would show what type of genre our music video would be created around and also the type of clothes that the actors could wear in the video. I also looked at different types of genres and how their music videos created a linear narrative in which the audience can see a clear storyline. I also created a video that showed the lyrics of our song with the visuals. By doing this we was able to see certain lines of the lyrics that we wouldn’t have normally seen.  We also decided research other artists the same as Laura Marling and see how their music videos had interpret the type of genre we was looking at.
Final cut pro was software which none of the group had used before, so we had decided to research editing techniques in which we could use for our music video to create a better effect.
When looking at planning our music video we had to look at different areas to film, have a filming and editing schedule and overall have the organisation to create our music video. We also created a shot list in which we used when filming our music video this was so that we knew what type of shots to use for a specific time in our song. By creating a filming schedule we was able to see what type of time we had to create our music video this helped create a clear time space in which we worked towards. We looked at how long it would take to get to the location and how far it was from the school to walk/ drive/ get a train or bus.

Construction:
After filming our music video we then had to use final cut pro to make the video come together. After importing the footage we filmed into the computer we started creating parts of our music video. We had to decided if our shots we had taken were to long and needed to be cut and also if the rest of the shot could be shown somewhere else in the music video. When putting together the music video having an order of what we wanted to have in the video was key. Once we had put the video together it was time to edit what we had to use. By putting in different transitions and editing the speed of the actors movement enhanced the effect of the music video. I had no knowledge of final cut pro so when I looked at how to edit a music video we bounced ideas off each other and what we thought would look good in our music video. I also learnt editing techniques which my group did not know so we was able together create and bring our own style to the music video.

Evaluation:
After creating our music video we had an audience come in to look at the video and make comment to what we done well and what we need to improve. By doing this we was able to create a better idea when writing our evaluations. We also felt that by having other people comment on our work it would be beneficial as we spent so much time on our video that we needed others to point out points that we could include into our evaluation. When looking at all of our evaluation questions the use of the radio interview worked well as we was able to create an interactive way this also highlighted the skills we had learnt.

James Clifford: Individual Statement

Individual Statement
During this stage of the A2 level, we worked in teams of three; we set out to complete pieces of work for the Research Stage, Planning Stage, Construction Stage and Evaluation Stages of the media coursework, we split up the work into three sections so we could try and share out as much as we could throughout the project. The list of bullet points below is the work which I have done or have taken part in for the project:
·         Evaluation Question 4: I had done this question as a podcast so I had completed this question on my own
·         Evaluation Question 3: The other members in my group had filmed the footage and I edited the footage to make the video
·         Directors Commentary: We were all in the commentary explaining key parts of the music video
·         Facebook and Twitter Page for Artist: I had created the twitter and Facebook accounts for the artist
·         Storyboard – Finished: I had drafted the initial storyboard and the other members of my group took the pictures for the storyboard
·         Digipak Advert: I had constructed the final digipak advert whereas a member of our group created the plan
·         Development of Music Video: I wrote a diary entry for every day which we filmed and edited the music video
·         Ideas for branding of the artist: I researched some fonts for which our artist would take one of them and consider it her brand
·         Rambling Man – Bloopers Video: The other members in my group recorded some of the footage in the video and I edited the footage to make the blooper video
·         Shot List: I had created a shot list for our music video and justified why we had used that shot for that moment.
·         Editing schedule and Filming schedule
·         Treatment: I wrote up a treatment for our music video
·         Music Video Analysis: I analysed several music videos
·         Our Music Video: Laura Whitehart – Rambling Man: I participated in doing most of the editing of the music video whereas the other two people in my group filmed most of the video, however, we did take turns in who would film and who would edit at some points
·         Existing music video companies and our Pseudo Music video companies: I researched for different music video companies and created our own company for our music video
·         Music Genres - the codes and conventions: I researched different music genres to our own music genre for our music video, but also researched our own genre too.
·         Legal Letter to Laura Marling: All of us got together and thought together what we would put in the letter
